My Own Style Ramen

Hi again! It's been a while since I last posted something here. I've been busy with school and everything.
(o´∀｀o) Hahaha.

This morning, I cooked my own style ramen. I don't even have a single clue about the taste of either japanese or korean ramen. And I don't know if the taste of this one is near or far, far away from those ramen I usually see in the movies and anime.

Ingredients:

cooking oil

1 large white onion

2 cloves garlic, chopped

cooked bacon

purified water
1 broth cube (I used chicken flavor)

1 pack ramen noodles

oyster mushrooms

cabbage

Chinese cabbage

1 hard boiled egg

black pepper powder

chili powder

Spanish paprika

How to prepare:

Pour little amount of cooking oil, let it heat. Then pour in garlic and onions. Mix for a few minutes until the onions are well-cooked. Add the bacon and mix. Pour in enough amount of water and wait 'til it boils a little, then add the broth cube. Let it melt and then mix.

In another pot, boil enough amount of water and then, slowly put the ramen noodles and boil for 2 minutes. Drain. Set aside.

Pour in oyster mushrooms, cabbage, and Chinese cabbage. Wait for 3 minutes to let it cook. Then add the spices and the ramen noodles. Mix. Turn off the heat, transfer some to a bowl and it's ready. Unshell the hard boiled egg and cut into half, lengthwise. Then place it above the noodles. Add chopped Chinese cabbage for garnish.

And you're done! Yeay!

This is just my own recipe. I have no idea how Japanese and Koreans prepare their ramen. But I like the taste though.

RinRin and Cheesie in Kawaii International

During the December vacation of 2012, the two channels that always met my eyes were Disney Channel (because of Phineas and Ferb) and NHK World (sadly, it's the only Japanese Channel on our cable TV). One of my favorite shows in NHK World is the Kawaii International.

They were showing the "VIEWERS' CHOICE 2012" and that time, it was the 3rd episode of Kawaii International entitled "Tips and Challenges to succeed in JAPAN" with special guests, Cheesie and RinRin.

CHEESIE is a fashion blogger from Malaysia. She won Nuffnang Asia Pacific Awards 2011 Best Fashion Blog title.

She explained that you need to learn the gyaru slang to read about Japanese fashion.

One example is the JK egg magazine. At first, Cheesie thought that JK meant "Japanese and Korean Fashion", but it is a slang that means joshi kosei (high school girl).

RinRin, the wizardress of expression, is a lolita model from the US. In this episode, she explained how she started her journey to becoming a famous kawaii lolita model.

At first, she didn't know the first step, then she was told that she must enter and do good in street snaps. That's how she started and later became a lolita model. Childhood friends, that’s what Takuma and Mayu were. But they’re not just friends. “First love”, that was how they call it. ( ¤̴̶̷̤́ ‧̫̮ ¤̴̶̷̤̀ ) Takuma was born having a heart problem. Mayu’s father attended to him to keep him well, both as a doctor and as a father. Having such disease, strenuous physical activities and many types of food were forbidden. Takuma’s death could come in the most unexpected time.

They grew up together, went to school together, did things happily together, and sometimes quarrel over some things. When they reached high school, there also went a student who “loved” Mayu. (I don’t think that was love, maybe infatuation. Hahaha). Suzuki Kou knew about Takuma’s disease, and told him that if he dies, what would happen to Mayu? She would be in much distress and hurt, crying hardly every time. He told him about how his father died from the same disease as Takuma had. So, while Takuma was still alive, he wanted to get Mayu. In fact, that was what Takuma was thinking over some time. He said that he would break up with Mayu before he dies so that when his time comes, Mayu would be in less distress.

Takuma challenged Kou for a 100 meter sprint. The deal was, if he wins, Kou must stop bugging Mayu, but if Kou wins, Mayu would be his girlfriend. (Well, that’s an unfair deal, without Mayu knowing anything. Takuma came out to be the winner.

One time, when the two planned on skipping the class, Kou saw them and was also planning the same. (hahaha) He offered Takuma a friendship. When he got out from a hospital or a donor center (not really sure what it was. Hehe), he tried to avoid a bicycle on the road when a large truck hit him that led him to a coma.

Good news for Takuma, a heart donor came. The operation will be in two days. The doctor, Mayu’s father, told Takuma and his parents that the boy who was in an accident was carrying a heart donor slip and that was for Takuma. He ordered Takuma for a bed rest until the operation. Being always with Takuma, Mayu was also in the hospital. Seeing some other students wearing the same school uniform as her, she approached them and was told that Kou was in an accident and was admitted in the same hospital. That was when she knew that the donor was Kou.

When Takuma knew about the matter, he refused to undergo to the operation. Kou’s mother and grandfather, on the other hand, witnessed the tears of Kou flowing down from his eyes to his cheeks, and his one finger that moved. The doctor said that it was just spinal reflex but for them, it was hope. A miracle could happen. Seeing this, they cancelled the heart donor. It brought sadness to Takuma’s parents.

For the last time, Takuma and Mayu spent their time together and had fun together. They rode rides that were actually forbidden for him. Mayu tried to stop him but he insisted, and then told Mayu that it was the time for him. The next thing was an ambulance came up carrying him to the hospital and there, his body gave up. ( =̴̶̷̤̄ .̫ =̴̶̷̤̄ )

In the end, Mayu was wearing a wedding gown, alone in a church, holding a white container with Takuma's ashes. ( ¤̴̶̷̤́ ‧̫̮ ¤̴̶̷̤̀ ) Well, they got married though. (o´∀｀o)

Japanese Jazz Saxophonist and Flutist

Kobayashi Kaori (小林香織) really caught my attention. Thanks to my classmate who posted a link of one of her video on facebook.

I found a video of her playing Heart of Mine - one of my most favorite oldie song, not just because it's relaxing to listen to, but it was also a theme song of one of my most favorite Korean drama, Full House.

I like to listen to jazz music and Kenny G is so far my favorite saxophonist. And Kobayashi Kaori is added to the list.

The Philippine Onigiri

I've been hearing a lot about rice balls, specifically Japanese rice balls. I first heard a lot about it in Shuriken School aired on Disney Channel Asia.
Time passed, and when I watched Special A, a shoujo anime, I again saw this famous Japanese food. So I searched about its recipe, knew its Japanese term (onigiri), and then I realized its shape (for I was oblivious to its shape until then). (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

When I saw the usual shape of the Japanese rice balls, I suddenly thought to myself, "Oh, we have that here in the Philippines!" But the difference is that they put something inside it, whether a fish or corned beef or chicken, etc. And they also make onigiri kawaii and decorate stuffs on it. But it's just as simple as it is here in the Philippines, only eaten at breakfast. Here, we call it puto (プート). I wish vendors here will also put something attractive to it to attract people's attention.

They Know I Like Japanese

This morning, our teacher in Interpersonal Communication Skills was explaining something about pharmacists need to explain well in advising patients and customers about dosage regimen of drugs and others. He said that if the customer is talking in English, you should also talk in English, but if the customer talks in Cebuano or in dialect, you should also answer the same. But he added, "If the customer's talking in French, haha, good luck nalang." I didn't know that my classmates at my back (for I was seated in the front) were pointing at me for that "other language". I was surprised when the teacher suddenly faced towards me and asked, "Do you speak French?" And with my eyes wide (for I was shocked), I shook my head lightly, and all of my classmates shouted, "Japanese!" Then my teacher was laughing and I immediately hid my Japanese phrase book at my armchair. (btw, that Japanese phrase book was just given to me by one of my classmates.) Thanks to her. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

Japinoy

Since I am a Japanese fan myself, I'm really interested to those who are Japanese-Filipino that became popular in Japan. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ) Whether they were born in the Philippines or in Japan, doesn't matter.

Two of them (and I never expected) are Kawabe Chieko and Hayami Mokomichi.

I first heard her voice in the opening song of one of my most favorite shoujo anime ~ Ouran High School Host Club. Without that song (Sakura Kiss), Ouran HSHC wouldn't be complete. And I found her voice to be unique & kawaii. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)
Several weeks, I've been listening & singing that song, without even knowing that the singer has a Filipino blood. Waaahhh, that's overwhelming (for me :D). Until I came across articles and blogs that talk about these Japanese-Filipino that became famous in Japan. Honestly, I was shocked.
Okay, so much for that.
Here it is,
Kawabe Chieko (河辺 千恵子) is a female Japanese pop singer, model, radio host and actress.  She was born on February 24, 1987 in Tokyo to a Japanese father and a Filipina mother of Spanish descent. (Wikipedia)

From the famous Japanese drama, Gokusen 2. He played as Tsuchiya Hikaru ~ one of the students in Class 3-D of Kurogin Gakuin.

He's also in some other famous dramas but I haven't watched them yet. (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)

I was not shocked when I found out about this, but I was surely surprised. Many articles states that he's a quarter Filipino.

His real name is Omote Mokomichi. In an interview, he stated that "moko" means straight, and "michi" means road. Thus, the meaning of his name is "straight road". (ღ˘⌣˘ღ)
